Cutest Kitten Contest Winner: Duffy

The Cutest Kitten Contest for 2010 has drawn to an end, and it is my great pleasure to announce the winners. Duffy, pictured here, came in first in a landslide vote. MPnyc adopted Duffy from a rescue shelter, and he was 10 months old at the time of his entry. See Duffy's full-sized Photo and Story.

How to Stop Aggression After Vet Visit
Cats' amazing sense of scent serves to protect them in many ways. However, it can backfire when a cat comes home from the veterinary clinic reeking of strange and frightening scents. Amy Shojai calls the resultant cat fights a form of redirected aggression, and explains it here:

"One of the most common forms of intercat aggression occurs between cats that formerly were best friends. This type of cat attack can be emotionally upsetting to the victim cat as well as owners. In many instances, the unexpected attack results from redirected aggression when the aggressor lashes out at a surrogate target since the actual target can't be reached."

New Blog Feature: Readers' Stories of the Day

I'm starting a new feature of Readers' Stories of the Day. The first one featured "Remy, the Paraplegic Cat," and came from the Special Needs Cats Show and Tell.

The second spotlighted "My Ageless Suzy,", which originated in the Joy of Senior Cats Gallery These selections will be chosen at random from the various Shown and Tell Galleries on my site, and will be featured on at least two random days of each week. Be sure to bookmark my blog - your own cat's story could be spotlighted some day.

Senior Cats to be Honored in September

Since this year (and going forward) the Cats of the Week are coming from Show & Tell stories, and because September is Senior Cat Health Month, I've decided to select September cats from the Joy of Senior Cats S&T Gallery. If you have a cat 10 years or older, you are invited to post his/her story and photos in that gallery. Pictured here is Emerald, who was featured in the original Senior Cats Picture Gallery.
